Constructive Interference by Alan Keown is a multi-percussion solo inspired by the scientific phenomenon that occurs when two sound waves superimpose to create a wave of greater or lower amplitude. It's written in two movements: slow and fast.
A heartbeat motif found in the first movement transfers over to the faster movement to give the piece a center point. The second movement in particular involves a lot of quick paradiddle passages and sweeping gestures, making it appropriate for advanced high school and early university-level players.
