Hydra by Chad Heiny is meant to capture the wild, aggressive energy of the mythical creature it's named after through a variety of percussion effect sounds and musical ideas. For example, the number 2 is a constant compositional motive throughout the work in reference to the duplicating heads of the beast!
You can also hear the "hissing" of the creature through metallic percussion sounds and actual vocal instructions for the performer. This piece is an excellent addition to high school and college percussion ensemble concerts!
