Echo Funk by Jonathan Ovalle puts a drum set soloist in front of a multi-percussion octet in what can be described as a mixture of First Construction in Metal, Bonham, industrial music, and Vinnie Colaiuta-inspired grooves.
Different echo motifs are used throughout the piece as the central compositional tool, split between the soloist and the ensemble (who are playing on a lot of found metal objects). Polyrhythms and metric modulations help build tension for the ultimate funky release.
If you're looking for a "drummy" piece that doesn't get too cerebral for your audience, Echo Funk might be just the thing!
