Meinl Darbukas come from the same geographical points of origin as the doumbeks; the main difference, however, is the flat rim around the head rather than the rounded rim. The thin metal shells found on these Turkish drums give them a lot of resonance, while their shape allows for cutting high tones and flat low tones. The head is secured and tuned with external rings set close to the shell. Meinl aluminum darbukas give you the most 'buka' for your buck - the metal provides a good sound at a fraction of the cost of the more expensive metals.
